Foreign travel may still be off the cards for some of us at the moment so why not shower a little interiors love into your own bedroom and get the boutique hotel feel so many of us crave when booking a holiday.
High-end hotel bedrooms come in every style so while one person may crave decadence and sophistication in their ideal hotel bedroom, the next may prefer a laid-back coastal vibe or even a bedroom style reminiscent of a grand country manor house.
Whatever your style preferences a bedroom refresh can be done on an affordable budget using high street retailers and a bit of DIY should you wish to save on employing tradespeople. If you’re in need of a little makeover inspiration then our boutique bedroom mood board is designed with items available from well-known retailers and easy styling tips for any space. Everything shown here came in under £2,000 in total so including the bed, other key furniture pieces and many decorative items it’s an affordable budget delivering a high-end design look.
Of course if you don’t have the time to organise a room makeover or you would like a boutique hotel bedroom created just for you and your home then do get in touch. We’re a Hertfordshire based interior design studio and we’d love to create an extra special bedroom space for your home, and all within your budget. Don’t worry if you think your budget won’t stretch to using an interior designer. We can provide exclusive access to trade discounts at many high-street retailers so what you spend on design fees will be recouped on trade discounts at some of your favourite UK stores. It’s a win-win!
THE MUTED COLOUR PALETTE
This scheme is designed with a base colour of soft smoky blues and subtle beiges/greys making it an ideal backdrop for adding more colour to such as soft pinks and contrasting dark charcoals. Softer colours are a good choice for bedrooms if you want the space to feel calm and relaxing. Here we’ve used Farrow & Ball Borrowed Light matt emulsion. Two 2.5 litre tins will cover most size bedroom walls for £100 as long as you’re doing the painting yourself.

KEY FURNITURE PIECES
A new bed is a big investment but given that you sleep in it every night and generally have it for years it’s worth spending as much as you can. This soft pink velvet upholstered bed from Made.com is pared with walnut veneer bedside tables with double drawers from Next.co.uk, as is the charcoal grey velvet bedroom chair. The furniture came in at £969 and they’re all timeless pieces.

LET THERE BE LIGHT
Most hotel bedrooms will be designed with many lighting options in mind including task, ambient and accent lighting. Ambient lighting in a bedroom is key for creating atmosphere and a calm feeling and accent lighting will highlight specific features. If budget doesn’t allow you to change the ceiling lights without the help of an electrician then table lamps on either side of the bed as well as plug-in wall-mounted lights will give a high-end look without major electrical work. The variety of modern lights used here add interest to the scheme and the brass detailing compliments other elements in the room . The three lighting elements came in at a total of £289 for 4 lamps and 1 ceiling light.

IT'S ALL IN THE LAYERING
The reason hotel beds look so inviting is the layering affect created by using multiple pillows, scatter and bolster cushions and throws or heavy quilted bedspreads. Pairing dusky charcoals and a variety of greys with crisp white bedding will create a nice colour contrast and show a subtle layering effect. Here we have chosen scatter cushions from Next and a plush grey velvet throw from George Home at Asda, coming in under £50 in total and adding texture and sophistication to the scheme.

THE DETAIL IS IN THE DESIGN
The subtle geometric rug from Next is a great way to add depth to a room and interest to a plain carpet. A large brass framed wall mirror from Habitat and vintage style photography print in a simple white frame from Desenio are key decorative pieces. Placing a large framed print above the headboard is a great way to create a focal point in a bedroom and even better when it's an image such as this one which is calm yet enticing. Don't forget to add the small items to make a space feel considered such as a reed diffuser, candle and faux flowers. These types of small items add a welcoming cosiness to the space.

FRAMING THE VIEW
Full length plush curtains are a must for a hotel style bedroom and if you can afford to have curtains made to measure they are a worthwhile and long-term investment and will look fantastically decadent. An alternative to bespoke curtains is beige linen ready made curtains. Linen is a fabric which will always look timeless and adds a natural tactile quality to a space and always looks more expensive than a standard cotton. These beige linen curtains from Linen Me at £79 a pair are a great way to style a window.

So there you have it. A ready made mood board and shopping list for a relaxed boutique hotel bedroom vibe.
